Chennai to Mamallapuram

Mamallapuram is picnic spot very near to chennai situated 55KM away from city. Place can be reached via ECR road.

Mamallapuram is protected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of its ancient mounuments which were mostly constructed between th 7th and 9th centuary. It is a 7th centuary Port city. You will find people from all over the world visiting its various attractions. It is an ancient city comprised of several monuments of architectural interests. It is about 50kms from Chennai on the East Coast Road. It is the home of many a stone artist and also has several orphanages and other social service centres in and around the town that attracts a host of volunteers from many countries.

Places around Mamallapuram.

Alamparai
This place is 50 km away from Mamallapuram. One can view the ruined fort built by the Nawabs in Alamparai. The Backwaters and cool sand are very beautiful and makes it a good picnic spot.
Covelong Beach
Covelong is a small fishing village. It is about 40 km from Chennai towards Mamallapuram. Here, once there was a port which now has been changed to a luxury beach resort. Visitors can go for wind surfing and swimming in this resort.

Crocodile Bank
This crocodile Bank is 44 km from Chennai. There are various dugged holes in this centre. Various species of crocodile and alligators are found here. A tribal society also runs a snake venom extraction centre near the crocodile Bank. The timings to visit this place is 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. Adults have to pay an entry fare of Rs.10 and for children it is Rs.5.

Dakshina Chitra

This Dakshina Chitra is adjacent to MGM. This is undertaken by Chennai Craft foundation. The models and replicas of traditional houses and other art crafts of Tamilnadu and South India are displayed here. This is located at Muttukadu. The entry fare for adults is Rs.50 and Rs.25 for children. The visitors can visit this spot between 10 am and 6 pm. Tuesdays are holidays.

Little Folks/Dolphin city

This spotis found in Kingslee circle, Muttukadu, Chennai-104. The first spot which organizes shows with a scalion. The timings to visit this spot is 10 am. and 7 pm generally and 10 am to 8 pm during holidays. The entry fees for adult are Rs.50 and for children it is Rs.10.

Mayajaal

Mayajaal is more than an amusement park. Many such artificial parks have been built with this being the fore runner of all such parks. This is an entertaining spot, located at Uthandi. The visitors are allowed between 10 am and 7 pm. The entrance fee is Rs.250.

MGM Dizee World

This artificial world of sport is put up at Muttukadu on the way from Chennai towards Mamallapuram. Giant wheels, Toy Trains, water rides, Roller Coaster are found here. They entertain the visitors. The entry fare for adultsw is Rs.295 and for children Rs.195.


Mudaliarkuppam

Visitors and tourists rush in to this place to ply on the row boats, pedal boats and motor boats. This attracts the tourists who travel on the east coast road. This place belongs to the district of Kanchipuram and is 92 kms from Chennai, and 36 km down Mamallapuram on the ECR. The Tamilnadu Tourism Development Corporation undertakes and maintains this boating house. The timings to visit this boat house is from 10 am and 6 pm.

Muttukadu Boat House

The visitors who flock in to this Muttukadu Boat House enjoy the wind surfing, canor, karfak, pedal Boat, Row Boat and Other facilities and entertainments available. It is 80 kms away from Kanchipuram. This wonderful picnic spot in Muttukadu is developed by the TTDC. This is a very good spot to relax and enjoy for a day.

Tiger Cave

A tourist attraction of ancient rocks and architecture. It has a small folk dance festival usually held in December.
